June L. Heckman Brenneman, 86 of Carlisle, passed away Saturday February 27, 2016 at the Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
She was born in Lemoyne, PA on May 2, 1929 to the late Walter D. and Mary B. Hess Heckman and was the widow of Lynn G. Brenneman Jr., who died August 18, 2007 after 56 years of marriage.
June retired as Food Service Director for the Carlisle Area School District after many years of service. She was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School class of 1947 and was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Class of 1951 and a member of the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. June was the first woman councilman in the Mt. Holly Springs Borough. She was a volunteer at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center where she also frequently donated blood. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, was an avid reader and traveled extensively throughout the world.
She is survived by two sons, Lynn G. Brenneman III, and wife Diane, of Reston, VA, Matthew W. Brenneman, and wife Lori, of Mt. Dora, FL; a daughter, Leslie J. Sterner, Boiling Springs; and six grandchildren, Adam and Jeremy Brenneman, Rachel and Sara Sterner and Matthew and Zachary Brenneman. June was preceded in death by a brother, Walter H. Heckman and a sister Carolyn Cole.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle, with Rev. Robert W. Moore officiating. Private interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. There will be a visitation following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg PA 17011 or to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
