Gabriel, sound your trumpet! Judy Stoner Kell is at your gate.
Judith Ann Stoner Kell, 79, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 under the loving care of her friends Nancy Fredo and Maria Rubalcaba.
Judy was born on September 24, 1935 in Hanover and was the daughter of the late Donald D. Stoner, MD and the late Olive P. Stoner.
She grew up in Carlisle and graduated from Carlisle High School, Class of 1953. She attended Wilson College, the University of Pennsylvania, Elizabethtown College and graduated from the Harrisburg-Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing. In the 1960s and 1970s, Judy was an OR nurse at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg and at the Carlisle Hospital. In 1976, she moved to Baltimore, MD where she was an OR nurse at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. While there, she resided aboard her sailboat in Essex, MD on the Chesapeake Bay. When she retired, she switched her passion from sailing to RVing. She acquired a motor home and extensively toured the United States including a trip to Alaska. She also loved her doggies. Judy sponsored a student from India named Gayathri through the organization Lead Forward managed by Phil Mock. Judy's sponsorship allowed Gayathri to complete her education through high school and nursing school. In later life, Judy became a prolific quilter and was a member of the Nacogdoches Quilters Guild making family heirlooms for many people. She enjoyed going on quilting retreats where she was able to spend time on projects and teaching and learning with other quilters. The fellowship and inspiration of those retreats brought great joy to Judy. She was also involved in many community service projects that benefited The Boys Ranch, Heartbeat Pregnancy Center, CASA and Child Protective Services.
Judy is survived by her sister Donna Stoner of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Michael Stoner of Bozeman, MT; and her nieces, Beth Bautista of Bethesda, MD and Amy Stoner of Cape May, NJ.
Her cremains will be interred in the Stoner family plot in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
