Joyce K. Black, 88, of Carlisle died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born July 28, 1925 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Franklin D. and Adah Basom Kramer and the widow of John L. Black, Sr.
She was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1943. Joyce owned and operated Joyce Black Beauty Shoppe, Carlisle from 1960 until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the former First United Methodist Church, Carlisle.
Surviving are one daughter, Diane L. Detrick (and husband, Tom) of Carlisle; three sons, John L. Black, Jr. (and wife, Cindy) of Chambersburg, Franklin D. Black (and wife, Bettina) of Sarasota, FL, and Jeffrey H. Black of Carlisle; eight grandchildren, Debra, John Michael, Matthew, Benjamin, Sarah, Ryan, Jessica, and Joshua; two step-grandchildren, Georgio and Tish; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Charlie. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, her good friend, Herb Morrow of Carlisle and her dog, Flash. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. Burial will be in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
