Joyce J. Schwalm, 85, of Silver Spring Township passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at her home while surrounded by her family. Joyce was born April 19, 1932 in Hegins, PA to the late Delbert and Carrie (Yoder) Dunkelberger.
Joyce retired from Bag Processors in Mechanicsburg, where she was a seamstress for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ in Carlisle Springs.
Joyce was filled with creativity that came out in her love of her flower gardens and floral arranging, painting ceramics, crocheting and counted cross-stitch. She loved to sing and enjoyed dancing. Her favorite performer was Wayne Newton. She was fascinated with forensic science and loved Court TV or a good crime drama. Joyce was the epitome of an animal lover. She loved all animals and took great care of the many pets she had throughout her life. Many people said that if there was such a thing as reincarnation, they hoped to come back to earth as one of Joyce’s pets. Above all else, Joyce treasured her family and always made sure hey knew how much she loved them. She was the kind of wife, mom, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, and aunt that would do anything for any of them and proved it often. She put her family before anything or anyone else, including herself. She will be most dearly missed by everyone.
Surviving to celebrate her life are: a son, Vaughn LeRoy Schwalm of Pine Grove; a daughter, Holly Joyce Schwalm of Mechanicsburg; three granddaughters, Jennifer D. Schwalm, Tricia D. Carbaugh, and Sarah J. Price; four great-grandchildren, Abigayle Hurley, Tyler Buchenauer, Maci Carbaugh, and Haylee Baer. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, LeRoy W. Schwalm; four sisters, Romaine Hauck, Roberta Spotts, Geraldine Moyer, and Ardythe Reinfeld and her great-grandson, Christopher Seiff.
