Joseph V. "Joe" Hawkins

Joseph V. "Joe" Hawkins, age 73, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill with his loving wife at his side.
He was born on January 27, 1942 in Allentown, NJ to the late Joseph V. and Edna Violet Winchester Hawkins, Sr.
Joe had retired from ABF Trucking in Carlisle after 30 years of service. He had worked for John Gleim Excavating and currently a driver for Union Quarries. He was a peacetime Army veteran. Joe was a life member and past Commander of AMVETS Post #274 in Carlisle, life member of VFW Post #477 in Carlisle, a member of the American Legion Post #177 in Newport, the Carlisle Order of Eagles Aerie #1299, a member of the Carlisle Elks #578 BPOE, a member of the Carlisle Moose # 761, a member of the White Circle and a member of the Teamsters Retiree Club, #776 of Harrisburg. Truck driving was Joe's favorite hobby and he also enjoyed RVing. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his great-granddaughter, Rebecca.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Edna R. Barrett Rudy Hawkins of Carlisle; seven daughters, Karen A. (and husband Wayne) Bracco of Franklinville, NJ, Gina M. (and husband Justin) Bittner of Clarksboro, NJ, Cheryl L. Hawkins and Jennifer V. Hawkins of Collingswood, NJ, Joyce R. (and husband Mark) Eggleston of Malaga, NJ, Brenda K. (and husband Douglas) Baldwin of Biglerville and Kathy S. (and husband David) Thumma of Carlisle; three brothers, Fred and John Hawkins of NJ and Frank Hawkins of UT; a sister, Geraldine Hawkins of NJ; fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Mele.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Josh Crain. There will be a viewing on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the services. Interment will be at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
