Joseph V. Capuano, 86 years old, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2021. He was an adoring husband, loving father, proud pap-pap, and lived a long, wonderful life.
Joseph was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 14, 1935. He grew up on Neville Island and went to Lehigh University, class of 1957. At Lehigh, he played varsity football and lacrosse, was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, and he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. He served briefly in the army, and went on to have a magnificent career in the construction industry at first working for Dravo Corporation and eventually starting a handful of engineering and construction companies, most notably MATX, Inc. He was an amazing structural engineer and worked on a lot of very interesting and unique projects including a plant in Liberia, Africa, raising the Penn State football stadium, renovation of the Monongahela Incline in Pittsburgh, the Harrisburg train station renovation, and erecting the National Battlefield Tower in Gettysburg. He was very active in the community - boy scout leader, softball coach, Middlesex Township Supervisor, etc.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; his children Joseph (Mary Skiver) Capuano, Melissa (David) Rohland, Steven (Gabrielle Murray) Capuano, Megan (Christopher Kovaly) Capuano; his grandchildren Michael, Amelia, Joseph, Zachary (Ethel), Steven, Marianna, Joseph, Ned, and Vincent. Joe is also survived by his younger brother Mark (Carol) Capuano.
We love him dearly, and will miss his stories, his great engineering mind, and his hugs.
