Joseph H. Breitenbach

March 26, 1923 — April 11, 2015

Joseph H. Breitenbach, Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born March 26, 1923 in Lackawanna, New York and was the son of the late John and Francelia Breitenbach, Liberty, PA, Tioga County. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Geraldine "Gerri" Breitenbach in 2012.
Joe was a 1941 graduate of Liberty High School, Tioga County, and attended Lycoming College. He also held a certificate for two years of off campus studies from Temple University. He served in the US Army and during WWII he was in McArthur's G-1 section. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired after many years of career military service.
He was a Life Member of: Knights of Pythias, Masonic Lodge #260, VFW Post #477 and the American Legion Post #101. He was a member of: Zembo Temple, DeMolay, Sojourners, The Cumberland County Shrine Club, Elks Lodge, Tall Cedars, and Turkey Buzzards. He was very active in Boy Scouts holding the Silver Beaver Award, the Doctorate in Commissioner Science in Scouting, and was the Unit Commissioner for three Boy Scout units in Carlisle.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph "Rusty" Breitenbach of Carlisle, Barry Breitenbach of Montgomery Village, Maryland and Ray Breitenbach, MD, of White Lake, Michigan; two daughters, Rita Breitenbach of Carlisle and Penny Torrence of Montgomery Village, Maryland; and eight grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean and Shirley.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover Street, Carlisle. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the East Point Methodist Church Fund, PO Box 43, Liberty, PA 16930.
