Joseph R. "Bob" Murray Jr., 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 25, 1930 in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph R. Sr. and Mildred Lorene (Walsh) Murray.
Bob proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired shift supervisor from PPG. Bob was a graduate of LaSalle High School, Cumberland, MD, class of 1948. He was a huge sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Redskins and Notre Dame, but most of all, he was an avid fan of his grandchildren's sports and theatrical performances. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be missed dearly.
Bob is survived by his children, Joseph "Rob" Murray (Cindy), Mechanicsburg, PA; Andy Murray (Lee Ann), Camp Hill, PA and Mike (Wendy) Murray; Lee Ann Murray and Amy Swank (Ty), all of Boiling Springs, PA; grandchildren, Joe (Fallon), Jill, Tom (Shawn) and Jim Murray, Luke, Maggie and John Swank, Jack and Kate Murray and great-grandchildren, Quinn, Owen and Aaron Murray. He is also survived by sister, Catherine Murray, Cumberland, MD; sister-in-law, Irene McMahon and best friend of 83 years, Jim "Diamond" Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Elizabeth (McMahon) Murray and sister, Carolyn McGreevy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 7, 2019 at 11:00am at St Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, with Fr. Donald H. Bender as celebrant. A viewing will be held from 6-8pm Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 W Trindle Rd., Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to St Patrick's Church or the Boiling Springs High School Four Diamonds Minithon in c/o Boiling Springs High School, 21 Academy Street Boiling Springs, PA 17007. Please make checks payable to BSHS activity fund #135.
