John N. Etter, Jr., 50, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1971, in Carlisle to Shirley (Schlusser) (husband Lawrence) Kiser and the late John N. Etter Sr.
John loved people and seemed to make friends everywhere he went. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1299, The Carlisle Club, AMVETS Post 274, VFW Post #477, the Moose Lodge 761, all in Carlisle; the Owls Club in Newport; and enjoyed meeting friends at one of his favorite hangouts the Sportsmen’s Inn in Shermansdale. He shot pool at the West End and the North Mountain Inn and bowled in leagues both at the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Midway. John was proud of the several 300 games he had thrown over the years. He spent time outdoors fishing and hunting whenever he could. John worked as a mechanic his entire life. He was always willing to help anyone, especially if it involved turning a wrench. John had a passion and a love for racing and was a crew chief for many years. During his time as a crew chief, he was able to travel to many different tracks around the country.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by his loving wife Sherry L. (Yost) Etter of Shermansdale; two children, Anthony (wife Alissa) Barrick of Gardners and Miranda Barrick of Newville; five grandchildren, Brylan Palson, Bubba Palson, Alyviah Barrick, Leylah Barrick, and Bella Palson; one sister, Kelly (husband Brian) Nelson of Carlisle; three nieces and nephews, Katelyn, Garrett, and Mason Nelson; two step-sisters, Jenny Kiser-Romandy (husband Eric) of Wexford and Michele (husband Chris) Ross of Mechanicsburg; and his beloved best friends and extension of his family, Ryan, Stacey, and Faith Greth. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
