John M. Lippert, age 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community.
He was born on June 22, 1926 in a farm house in North Middleton Township, Carlisle to the late Mervin R. and Jeannette Means Lippert.
John was a graduate of Carlisle High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Dickinson Township. He was a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church. John had a colony of Purple Martin birds and grew gourds to provide housing for them. He enjoyed woodworking and crafting gourds, but especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beulah Baum Lippert of Carlisle; four children, Marguerite Lippert, M.D. (and husband Richard Morton, M.D.) of Charlottesville, VA, Karen Lippert of Carlisle, Lois Lippert (and husband W. Jeffrey Walker) of Harrisburg and John T. Lippert of Akron, PA; two grandchildren, R.J. Morton (and wife Jenna Fredette, M.D.) of Swarthmore, PA and Ruth Morton of Baltimore, MD; and twin great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. William J. Lippert and a sister, Mary Alice Lippert.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. James Van Zandt officiating. Burial will be at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services.
