John Lent

John Robert Lent, 80, of Carlisle died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home.

Born Sept. 11, 1931, in Towanda, he was a son of the late Robert and Alice Platt Lent.

He was a graduate of Towanda High School, where he played saxophone in the school band. He received his BA from Millersville University in industrial arts and was a member of Penn State Education Association.

He retired from Susquehanna Township School District after 35 years of service as an industrial arts teacher. He was a member of Williams Grove Steam Engine Association, Sierra Club, National Rifle Association and Union Lodge 108 Masonic F&AM.

John was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Carlisle. Family was always first with him. He loved woodworking, gardening, farming, hunting, fishing and camping and was a great reader. John loved war stories, animals and Big Band music.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Roxie D. Lent of Carlisle; three daughters, Stephanie Brechbiel of Chesapeake Beach, Mass., Amy Lent of Glendale, Ariz., and Elizabeth Anderson of Newport; step-children, Michael Gray of Enola, Michelle Group of Boiling Springs and Melinda Gray of Madison, N.J.; five grandchildren, Jessica Brechbiel, Tyler Brechbiel, Shelby Anderson, Mallory Anderson and Mary Maharaj; and one sister, Jane George of Springfield, Va.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Dr. Darrel R. Justh and the Rev. Tim Dugan officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
