John E. Williams II, 58, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Massachusetts, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1962 in Lancaster to Shirley May (Keach) Williams of Ephrata and the late John E. Williams.
John honorably served his country in both the US Army and the Army National Guard for more than 24 years before his retirement. His service included two tours in Iraq and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Even after his retirement he continued serving through his volunteer work with FRG where along with his wife he cooked meals for the troops. John also drove truck for Schneider National for more than 25 years before his eventual retirement. He enjoyed spending time playing golf, bowling in leagues at ABC West, and playing for his church softball team. John also enjoyed mowing grass, camping, traveling, history (especially the Civil War), and playing Call of Duty on his Xbox with friends. He loved his family and was happy to have married his high school sweetheart.
John is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Jennifer A. Williams of Mechanicsburg; four children, Julie (husband Matt) Reichard of Carlisle, Rebecca (husband Jon) Montgomery of Mechanicsburg, Ashley (husband Lucas) Diehl of Mechanicsburg, and John (wife Ashley) Williams III of Carlisle; his mother, Shirley May (late husband John E.) Williams of Ephrata; three siblings, Robert (wife Donna) Williams of Massachusetts, Timothy (wife Lisa) Williams of Massachusetts, and Sharon (husband Fred) Rittenhouse of Denver, PA; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Glen Osborn officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Army Heritage and Educational Center, 950 Soldiers Drive Carlisle, PA 17013.
