John E. Leister

John E. Leister, 61, of Carlisle, PA died on Friday, August 23, 2019 at UC Davis, Sacramento California.
Born on January 3, 1958, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Eldred and Audrey (Casson) Leister, of Hyndman, PA.
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Tina M. Leister, who he married August 4, 1979; two sons Andrew J. Leister, and Matthew J. Leister; one brother, Alan E. “Gene” (wife Janice) Leister; five sisters, Cheryl L. (husband Steven) Shaffer of Hyndman, PA, Virginia A. (husband Melvin) Logsdon of Buffalo Mills, PA, Mary C. (husband Craig) Wisniewski of Harbor Oaks, FL, Donna M. (husband Charles Jr.) Gibbons of Buffalo Mills, PA, Deborah Jefferys of Hyndman, PA; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Leister of Cumberland, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Gary W. Leister and one brother-in-law, Tim Jeffreys.
Mr. Leister was a diesel mechanic for Union Quarries and an active member of Waggoner’s United Methodist Church. He was a member of the gospel group Chapter VII and enjoyed performing at local venues. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors, and singing. John’s family and friends will remember him for his kind heart, quick wit and great sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, 222 Schellsburg St, Hyndman, PA 15545. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Fairhope, PA. A visitation will be held from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
