John E. Crull

John E. Crull, 78, of Carlisle, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
Born May 7, 1936 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late John E., Sr. and Fern Salisbury Crull.
He was a 1954 graduate of Milton S. Hershey High School. He served in the PA National Guard before enlisting in the Army in 1958. He was stationed at numerous Army bases in the U.S., then served in Korea and was last stationed in Paris, France. He was an Honor Graduate of the Seventh Army Non-Commissioned Officer School at Bad Tolz, Germany, as well as a graduate of the U.S. Army Information School.
John was a journalist most of his adult life. He worked as a reporter for many local newspapers, among them The Carlisle Sentinel, Hummelstown Sun, and as an editor for the Dillsburg Bulletin. He also was a sports writer, photographer and developed his own pictures. Later on he sold advertising for Fry Communications and the West Shore Shopper. He was also the associate editor for Linn's Stamp News, in Sidney, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Herta S. Crull of Carlisle; one son, Eric-John Crull (and wife, Danielle) of Dillsburg; one daughter, Sieglinde "Sissy" Kennedy (and husband, Tony) of Bethlehem; and four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Madison and Carson Crull and Alexandria Kennedy and also a niece, Gloria Leofanti, and nephew, Richard Noggle. He was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Noggle.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home and the staff of the Carlisle Regional Medical Center for their care and devotion.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Chaplain Anna Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
