John D. "Jack" Burkholder, Jr., 90, of Carlisle, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Spang Crest Manor in Lebanon, PA.
He was born on October 2, 1924 in Carlisle to the late John D. and Mary Alice Mohler Burkholder, Sr. and was the widower of Laura Egolf Burkholder.
Jack was the former owner/operator of Burkholder Associates and was also employed by the former C.H. Masland & Sons, Carlisle. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Carlisle, a 54 year member of the Cumberland Star Lodge, #197 F&AM of Carlisle and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a man of many interests: photography, history, trains and model trains, where he was a licensed train engineer, and computers. Jack was an avid reader of history and religious books. During his retirement, Jack enjoyed being a greeter at the Carlisle Wal-Mart store.
He is survived by a son, John D. "Jack" (and wife Sherrie) Burkholder III of Akron, PA; a daughter, Judy B. (and husband Alan) Johnston of N. Wales, PA; a brother, Richard "Dick" (and wife Nancy) Burkholder of Carlisle; a sister, Ann Shatzer of Carlisle; four grandchildren: Wesley Burkholder, Charles King, Elizabeth Wigand and John Burkholder; and three great-grandchildren: Laura and Mark Wigand and Rose Rush-King. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Katherine Sunday.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle with Reverends Chris and Rachel Schwab officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be a visitation at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. There will be a Masonic Service held by the Cumberland Star Lodge at 1:45 p.m. Following the service, there will be a reception in the church social hall.
