John B. Crum, Jr. age 85, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle with his family by his side.
He was born May 10, 1933 in Carlisle, PA, the son of the late John B. Crum and Christine E. Crum-McCall.
John graduated from Carlisle High School in 1951 and attended Drexel University and Pierce Business School. He retired as a computer analyst/programmer from the Navy Depot. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, Free and Accepted Mason of the St. Johns Lodge No. 260, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 578, of Carlisle. He was a past member of the Mt. Holly Springs Golden Age Club. John enjoyed hunting, biking, hiking, singing, and playing the piano. In his younger days, he was a member of a barber shop quartet. He had a dry sense of humor, and always had a joke to tell. He loved tinkering with things, building cars and mastering mega crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his son: Alan B. Crum and fiancé Sue Armstrong of Shippensburg; daughter: Ann C. Lynes and husband Steven of Dillsburg; sister: Christine Bush and husband Donald of Middletown, NJ; brothers: Thomas and wife Carol, William and wife Judy, both of York, and James and wife Barbara of Carlisle; stepsister: Vera Evelhoch and husband Ronald, of Lewistown; stepbrother: Robert McCall and wife Margret of California; stepchildren: Andrew Shearer, Heidi Ferry, James Gehr and Kimber Lovejoy; grandchildren: Tom Crum, Lydia and Luke Lynes and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three wives: Carolyn (Sheaffer), Nancy (Frye) and L. Kay (Miller); stepsister: Valerie McCall; stepson: Allan Dunkleberger; and daughter-in-law: Virginia Crum.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 2 N. Hanover Street, Carlisle, with Rev. Anthony Lorenz officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the start of the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 112 Sipe Ave, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
