Joel L. Black, age 82, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at his residence with his loving wife by his side.
He was born September 18, 1933 in Carlisle to the late Earl and Anna Mae Egolf Black.
Joel retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Ship Parts Center as Director of Printing and Publications. He was a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant after serving for over 26 years. He served during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Naval Depot, Joel kept busy working several part time jobs including Hill's, Ames and Big Lots. He was a member of the First Church of God, Carlisle where he served on the Church Council and also as an usher. He was a member of the Carlisle VFW Post #477 and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He loved running errands and mowing his lawn. His family meant the most to him.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise A. Kramer Black of Carlisle; two daughters, Jodi L. (and husband James) Swartz of Carlisle and Lori A. Black and husband David Firestone of Emigsville, PA; a sister, Shirley A. Black of Newville; and three grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. (and husband Justin) Bell, Kevin B. Weagle, Jr and Kirstia Taylor. He was preceded by two brothers, Richard and Raymond Black.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale Street, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Michael R. Poe officiating. Interment will be at Westminster Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services.
