Joanna "Jo" E. Beatty

July 21, 1940 — January 23, 2014

Joanna "Jo" E. Beatty (nee Smith) passed away January 23, 2014 to be with the Lord after a brave battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Born July 21, 1940 in Philadelphia to Willard T. and Marion J. Smith she graduated from Quakertown High School in 1958 and attended Susquehanna University where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She subsequently graduated with an Associate Accounting degree from the Williamsport Area Community College.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marian Schmid of Philadelphia and is survived by her significant other Dennis Ulp of Harrisburg, three nephews: Thomas Schmid, Gerald Schmid, and Richard Schmid, and three children: Mark Beatty of Rutherford, Holly Lehman of Carlisle, and Kelly Holland along with her grandchildren Elle Lehman, Ethan Lehman, Gavin Beatty, and Grey Beatty.
Jo recently worked for Larry B. Shoop, CPA and Christopher & Banks at the Capital City Mall and sold Avon for over 20 years.
Jo considered herself blessed to have many friends who she loved deeply and was incredibly optimistic and positive; she had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Her happiest moments were with family and friends at Long Beach Island, NJ - she made it to "the shore" every year of her life.
She was an avid reader and belonged to the Friends of the Hummelstown library and the Aspen Hill book clubs and it was her wish that, in lieu of flowers, people donate to the William H. and Marion C. Alexander Library (DCLS), 200 W 2nd Street, Hummelstown, PA 17113.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
