Boiling Springs

Our beloved Jerry Iversen, 82, was welcomed into God’s Presence on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He passed at home in Carlisle, PA, holding the hands of loved ones after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born May 31,1942 in Willits, CA, Jerry was the son of the late Clifton and Leone (Smith) Iversen and loving husband of 61 years to his surviving wife, Rachel (Wood) Iversen.

Jerry was a graduate of Watsonville High School class of 1960 and earned his bachelor’s degree in art education from San Jose State University. He started working in the printing industry while in high school and eventually owned his own business, Lightning Printing, in Santa Clara, CA with partner Larry Koch. Later he owned and ran The Copy Shop in San Jose, CA. Before retiring at age 73, he worked for the missionary organization Medical Ambassadors International. He served as a boy scout leader at Bethel Church in San Jose, CA, a Royal Ranger Commander and a Deacon at Calvary Community Church in San Jose, CA, was an active member of Neighborhood Church in Modesto, CA, and spent the last nine years as a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Carlisle, PA and part of the Forever Young leadership team.

Most often remembered for his wit and sense of humor, Jerry had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. His knowledge base was vast and “ask Jerry” was a great way for friends and family to solve most dilemmas. Even in his last days he was fixing mechanical and technical issues for those around him. Jerry loved helping and serving others, and he did so with great humility and patience.

Not many are aware of Jerry’s artistic side. The paintings, drawings, and pottery in the Iversen home are not only beautiful but also his own creations. Jerry was a natural teacher. Whether passing practical skills onto his kids and grandkids, instructing Royal Rangers about the Bible, or showing family members how to use the latest gadget he created or discovered, Jerry loved passing along his knowledge. As a lifelong learner, curious about nearly everything with a sincere appreciation for how things work, and having experienced many unique adventures because of it, there were always new things to discover when Jerry was around.

Jerry was someone you could count on. He was reliable and prepared. He looked out for the people around him whether family, friend, or stranger. He consistently welcomed others into his home, whether that was for a day or for a year. In either case, he would keep your visit interesting with stories, a magic trick, or a surprise prank.

When it came to his faith, Jerry discipled others by being a role model. His character and actions reflected Christ louder than words could ever say. His spiritual leadership and commitment to the Lord remained steadfast to the end, even amidst suffering.

The love Jerry had for his family was immeasurable. Time with his wife, kids, and grandkids is what he enjoyed most. Whether that meant helping with ministry events, working on school projects, sitting in the bleachers, driving to lessons or practices or school, he wanted to be there. It was also his habit to put others before himself. The way that others love and treasure him is a testimony of the love that Jerry showed consistently to his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his daughters, Michelle Kish (husband Chuck) of Carlisle, PA and Christy McLendon (husband Robert) of Riverbank, CA; grandchildren Michael Mosley (wife Monique), JaVaughn Iversen (wife Sarah), Jaylon McLendon (fiancé Samantha), Alaira Kish, Titus McLendon, Trevien McLendon, Shaylee Kish, and SaVanna McLendon; great-grandson Luke Iversen (parents JaVaughn and Sarah) and another great-grandchild on the way (parents Michael and Monique); brother, Loren Iversen of Stockton, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, November 30th at Bethel Assembly of God Church at 1412 Holly Pike, Carlisle, PA 17015. Doors will open at 2 PM to greet family and friends, and the service will begin at 3 PM. A Livestream will be available.
