Jeffrey M. Walder

Jeffrey M. Walder, age 76 of Carlisle and Newville, passed away on April 27, 2020 peacefully at home. Born October 30, 1943, Jeff was raised in Baltimore, MD by the late Melvin and Helen (Higger) Walder.

In his younger years, Jeff loved to sail; many a wonderful, long weekend was spent with his wife Marty on the Chesapeake Bay. After moving further from the coast, Jeff took up fly fishing and became a master fly fisher. A founding member of Big Spring Watershed Association, Jeff was an early leader in efforts to reduce pollution in Conodoguinet Creek and was instrumental in getting handicapped access for fishing to the headwaters of Big Spring. Jeff expressed his creative side in cooking for his family; his legendary turducken was one of the many dishes that were the centerpiece of family gatherings and celebrations. Professionally, Jeff was a clinical psychologist for 35 years in private practice. He helped many people find, nurture and grow the best in themselves. Above all, Jeff loved his family. He loved and deeply cared for his wife, Marty. And he had particularly strong affection for his grandchildren, nephew, and nieces. His exuberant spirit and humor-filled approach to life will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Huffman) Cline; one daughter, Melinda (husband Telford) Locklear of Winston Salem, NC; a son, Alexander (wife Janice) Rhodes of Westernport, MD; one brother, Charles (wife Suzanne) Walder of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Zac Locklear, Grace Locklear, Ben Rhodes, and Forest Rhodes; one nephew, Leigh Walder and four nieces, Rose (husband Andrew) Walder Lipsitz, Lily Walder, Elisa Huffman and Erika Magnussen; grandnephew Viggo and grandniece Ivy.

Memorial services will be held by the family at a future date.
