Jay S. Hershey, age 66, of Newville, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on September 16, 1949 in Carlisle to the late Ray Hershey and Gaa Russell Hershey, of Castroville, TX.
Jay was a 1967 graduate of Carlisle High School and the Nashville Diesel College in 1969. He worked for Caterpillar and was a member of Teamsters 776, worked at Roadway Trucking as a mechanics and then Mac Tools as an owner/operator distributor for 9 years. He then returned to Roadway from where he retired in 2012. He was a Cub Scout leader for Pack 185 in Huntsdale, loved motorcycles and was an avid racing fan. Jay traveled extensively including Australia & New Zealand and numerous cruises.
In addition to his mother, Jay is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathryn McManus Hershey of Newville; son, Mark Hershey of Newville; daughter, Michelle (and husband Scott) Baldwin of Carlisle; granddaughter, Ava Baldwin; sisters, Jan (and husband Charlie) VanAuken of Gardners and Nan Hershey of Austin, TX; and a brother, Jon (and wife Lisa) Hershey of Carlisle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Bob Baldwin officiating. Burial will be held privately. There will be a viewing from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
