Jay James Gutshall, 68, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home on February 14th, 2025.
Jay was born on July 11th, 1956, to the late Freemont and Ruth (Negley) Gutshall, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Jay is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Stanley Gutshall.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Janet (Wiles) Gutshall, his son, Kevin Gutshall, his brother, Robert Gutshall (Myerstown), his sister-in-law, Joan Gutshall (Newville), his sisters, Fay Negley (Newville), Janet Schucker (Womelsdorf), Kay Spaher (Womelsdorf), Mary Stauffer (Terry) (Franklin NC), Norma Wolf (David) (Bernville), Jane Schnoke (Keith) (Womelsdorf), Nancy Gutshall (David Anthony) (Newville), his two grandchildren, Jacob Gutshall and Tyler Witmer, his paternal aunt, Mary Rudy, his maternal uncle, Dick Negley, and many nieces and nephews.
Jay loved spending time working on the race car and going to races with his family. he especially enjoyed playing a personal part in his son's racing career. He enjoyed going for Sunday rides in the mustang with Janet, going out to eat with their friends and family, and family gatherings. He loved to build bird houses, squirrel feeders, and parts for the race car. Jay loved his family dearly, including his two cat companions, Smokey and Storm.
Jay farmed at home up until 1975. He also worked for the veterinarian; Philip Cook of Loysville. He worked for Capital Products for 11 years as a maintenance man. He also worked for The Frog and Switch Manufacturing company of Carlisle doing maintenance. He went back to farm work for about 2.5 years at Monroe Farms. After Monroe Farms, Jay became a truck driver for the Sygma Network out of Mechanicsburg in 1990. From there, he worked at H.B. McClure Company out of Harrisburg up until his retirement.
Jay was a member of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association, the York County Racing Club, and the Perry County Old Iron Collectors. Jay and Janet also attended The Good News Church of Mechanicsburg.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, March 28th, 2025, at 12:00pm at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1921 Ritner Hwy, Carlisle, PA 17013.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 12:00pm at The Good News Church, 124 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17050.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, PO box 249, Greencastle, PA, 17225, or The Good News Church, 124 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17050.
The family would like to thank hospice for their care of Jay in his final days.
