Janna M. Kurtz, 72, of Newville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born November 8, 1939 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Jay and Naomi Grace Locke Mowery and has reunited with her loving husband Robert Lee Kurtz.
She was a graduate of Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing. Janna was a registered nurse who worked at the Carlisle Hospital in various capacities including: Inservice Coordinator, Patient Education Instructor and as an ER and ICU nurse. She was also Director of Nursing at the Cumberland County Nursing Home. She had a 20 year career at the PA State Department of Welfare and Health Services. She was a member of the Brethren In Christ Church, Carlisle, where she especially enjoyed the music. Janna was a fun, caring person who loved to help others and will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She spent much time reading and traveling and loved all animals, especially her cats.
Surviving are one son, Craig D. Kurtz (and wife, Brenda) of Herndon, VA; one daughter, Karen Kurtz Weyl (and husband, Phillips) of Newark, DE; three grandchildren, Carrie, Sarah and Marshall Kurtz; one sister, Josephine Rebecca Henry of Newville; one half-brother, Thomas Anthony Mowery of Lewisburg; one step-brother, Robert Grosholz of Mechanicsburg and one step-sister, Lucille Birgensmith of Gettysburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Brethren In Christ Church, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle with Rev. Linda Lambert officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newville. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
