Janice L. “Jan” Petrick, 79, of Carlisle and formerly of Loysville, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
She was born August 5, 1943, in Renovo, PA to the late Calvin and Agnes Shearer.
Jan was a 1962 graduate of Dallastown High School and met her future husband in her second year at Penn State University. She married into a family who valued traditions and she came to love the holidays and traditions herself. Jan was a selfless woman who always put the needs and wants of her family before her own. When her children were young, she enjoyed volunteering at their school, attending every one of their sporting events, and helping with whatever her family needed. Jan worked for many years at Perry Village providing care for members of her community as a nurse’s aide. As her children grew up, she traveled all over the country to see them. When she could no longer travel very much, she cherished meeting up with her family every year for Thanksgiving at the Hotel Roanoke. Jan was a passionate sports fan and loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions. She treasured her home and loved meticulously maintaining her house and her yard. Family and friends knew Jan for her absolute love and boundless QVC packages she sent as gifts. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert J. Petrick of Carlisle; one son, Robert A. Petrick (partner Don Canada) of Washington DC; two daughters, Danielle M. Milligan of Hagerstown, MD and Tawny J. (husband Mark) Mercer of Weddington, NC; and six grandchildren, Brendan (wife Amanda) Milligan of Plantation, FL, Brody Milligan of Hagerstown, MD, Brock Milligan of Plantation, FL, Auburn (husband Taylor) Day of Tampa, FL, Cyan Mercer of Charlotte, NC, and Dustin Mercer of Weddington, NC. In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Eli Alexander Day.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jan to the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Red Cross, 1804 North 6th Street. Harrisburg, PA 17102, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, PO Box 98018 Washington DC 20090-8018, or to the veteran’s organization of your choice.
