Janice Henrici Kaufman

July 13, 1949 — April 12, 2016

Janice Henrici Kaufman, age 66, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, formerly of New London, Connecticut, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle.
Janice was born on July 13, 1949 in New London to Edward Walter and Marjorie Nicol Henrici. Janice is survived by her mother, Marjorie of Mystic, CT; daughters, Kathryn Kaufman of Anchorage, AK and Amy Kaufman of Carlisle, PA; granddaughter, Jillian Henry of Anchorage, AK; former husband, Raymond J. Kaufman of Anchorage, AK, sister, Lynn Rogers (Phil) of Mystic, CT; and brother David Henrici (Anne) of Salem, CT. Janice was preceded in death by her beloved father, Ed.
Janice was a 1967 graduate of Saint Bernard's High School and a 1971 graduate of Albertus Magnus College with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. She enjoyed gardening, canning, writing, any day at the beach with a good book, and most of all, cooking gourmet meals for family gatherings. Janice was passionate about her love of New London and her family's rich history in the community.
After staying at home to raise her daughters and provide daycare to the Qualridge neighborhood children in Victor, NY, Janice built careers in advertising/marketing, retail management and ultimately real estate and property management. She was regarded by colleagues as creative, motivated, smart and loyal, and built a reputation as being a "mother-hen" to her co-workers. She cultivated professional success and lasting friendships everywhere from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to upstate New York, her home of many years.
One of Janice's most fondly remembered adventures was traveling from New London to New York City as a Macy's employee to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, an event she hoped would bring particular delight to her granddaughter. She treasured time with her family, and always put tremendous effort into making every gathering special.
By her friends and family alike, Janice will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind eyes, and caring nature. She found joy in moments big and small every day, from the birds that visited her kitchen window feeder, to traveling with her family and friends, from New England to Alaska, and beyond. Her strength, her truly generous spirit, and her eternal optimism will always be a source of inspiration for those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 63 Old Norwich Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375. There will be a visitation at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
