Janet A. Hileman, 81, of Mifflinburg, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Green Ridge Village, Newville.
She was born June 10, 1939 in Mt. Union to the late Lincoln G. and Verna J. (Rorer) Hileman.
Janet was a very active member of Christ’s United Lutheran Church in Millmont where she was also instrumental in the formation of Hope’s Haven Food Pantry. She taught health and physical education for 34 years at Mifflinburg High School. During her tenure as a teacher, Janet coached many of the school’s sports teams and was named the first female PIAA Athletic Director in Pennsylvania. She was an honorary lifetime member of the PIAA. Janet loved traveling, playing cards, visiting with friends and family; baking amazing cookies and desserts; attending Bucknell basketball games and other sporting events; and engaging in her community to help others who were in need.
She is survived by her brother, Garry Hileman of Mt. Union; two nieces, Kimberly (husband Paul) Strizzi of Mt. Holly Springs; Lee Ann (husband Tom) Swanekamp; four nephews, D. Michael (wife Cathy) Hileman of Carlisle; Jeffrey (wife Lorraine) Hileman of Shippensburg; Matt Lupfer (wife Theresa) and Mark Lupfer (wife Vicky) of Kissimmee, FL; four great nieces and nephews, Heather Kenyon, Tyler Hileman, Jennifer Wolfe and Morgan Lupfer; and a Great-Great Nephew, Camden Kenyon. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Hileman (surviving wife, Glenna Hileman).
A memorial service celebrating Janet’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on November 14, 2020 at Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd. Millmont, PA 17845. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Janet to Hope’s Haven Food Pantry, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd. Millmont, PA 17845.
