Jane Reader Weaver

August 20, 1937 — September 23, 2018

On Sunday, September 23, 2018, Jane Reader Weaver of Sanibel, FL and Carlisle, PA devoted mother and grandmother, died peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Jane was born and raised in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the place she always considered her true home. An English major at Dickinson College, she was curious, fearless, and a natural trailblazer. Her career was wide-ranging. In the 1970’s, Jane was the creator and host of the local PBS show Miss, Mrs. Ms., which showcased women leaders in the community. Later, she was the owner and chief executive of Resort Salon Services on Captiva Island. Perhaps she was best known for her long and highly successful career in real estate, which she began in Pennsylvania and continued on her beloved Sanibel and Captiva Islands. In all her endeavors, she was the consummate people-person and a creative, skillful deal-maker.

Jane lived an extraordinary life that touched the hearts and souls of so many. All who knew her felt the depths of her warmth and compassion and delighted in her exuberance and that resounding laugh. Always a youthful and independent spirit, she was a model of strength, resilience, and living life to its very fullest. Her generosity was limitless.

Nothing was more important to Jane than her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her 3 daughters and 2 grandsons. The family matriarch, she led with wisdom, faith, optimism, and an epic sense of humor. There was nothing that couldn’t be made right by a conversation with Jane.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Jane W. McKenna and Elizabeth Brenneman and Julie McKean Weaver, her son-in-law, Sean M. McKenna, and her grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Patrick T., Colin M., and Michelle McKenna. She will forever be missed.

and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,--
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Alfred Lord Tennyson, from “Ulysses”
