Jane Blair Spangler, 91, of Concord, NC, passed away on October 22, 2018 while visiting with family in Hershey, Pa.
She was born August 18, 1927 in Washington, DC, to the late R. Perry Yeatman and Marie Shaw Yeatman, and was baptized in the Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington National Cathedral.
Following her graduation from Mary Washington College, she was employed as an elementary school teacher for several years, a profession that she resumed as a reading specialist when her children were grown. She volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Berks County (Pa.) Historical Society and the Friends of the Concord (NC) Library. She was active politically, working at the polls for many years in Ohio, Pa., and NC. She was also active in the Episcopal Church at Christ Church, Reading, Pa. and All Saints Church in Concord, NC.
Jane was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was devoted to each role and put a smile on our faces every day. She loved to cook and we were her willing guinea pigs, enjoying many delicious meals through the years. Everywhere she lived, she made friends easily. Opinionated and with a quick wit, she was beloved by everyone who met her. She was probably best known for being the life of the party wherever she went. She was a loyal friend, and if you were lucky enough to know her, you were a friend for life.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert S. Spangler, Sr.
Jane is survived by her three children, Janet Sutton of Concord, NC, Nancy Wismer of Clayton, DE, and Robert S. (wife Kimberly) Spangler Jr. of Carlisle, PA; six grandchildren, Kati (husband Chris) Oltyan of Denver, CO, David (husband Isaac Bianco) Sutton of London, England, Jennifer Wismer of Dover, DE, Zachary Wismer of Clayton, DE, Elizabeth Spangler of Philadelphia, PA and Bradley Spangler of Philadelphia, PA; and two great-grandchildren, Taryn and James Oltyan.
A memorial service will be held Monday November 19 at 11 am at All Saints Episcopal Church, Concord, NC. Interment will be at the columbarium at Christ Church, Reading, Pa. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane’s honor may be made to the Memorial Fund at All Saints Episcopal Church, 525 Lake Concord Rd, Concord, NC, 28025.
