James Leroy Evans

December 10, 1919 — August 14, 2015

James Leroy Evans, 95, of Carlisle, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle.
He was born on December 10, 1919 in Altoona to the late Leroy and Ella Brown Evans.
James served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Geneva College, Nyack College and the Pittsburgh Seminary. He was a missionary for 34 years serving in India in conjunction with the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He was Secretary on the Board of Directors for Ramabai-Mukti Mission in India. After his term as missionary, he served as interim pastor for a church in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a member of the Harrisburg First Alliance Church where he also served as Elder.
James is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy E. Conley Evans of Carlisle; daughter, Carol Alter of Bombay, India; sons, John Evans of Prague, Czech Republic and David Evans of Alexandria, VA; sister, Barbara Myers of Silver Spring, MD; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; three step-children, Rev. Douglas Conley, Rev. Ernest Conley and Rev. Jeffrey Conley; seven step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Jean White Evans; sister, Marcella Page; and twin brother, W. Eugene Evans and brother, Vernon Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover St. Carlisle, with Rev. Walter L. Frankenberry and Rev. Steve Motter officiating. Burial will be at Letort Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Chapel Pointe.
