James K. "Jim" Winters, Jr, age 68, of Carlisle, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and friends. This disease no longer has its hold on him and he is finally free.
Jim was born February 25, 1948 in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late Chief Master Sergeant James K. and Alice (Masterbone) Winters.
Jim graduated in 1970 from the University of Delaware with an Army ROTC scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. He then obtained his Master of Arts degree in Quantitative Theory from Central Michigan University in 1980.
Jim retired from AAFES as a Senior Vice President after 35 years of dedicated service. His assignments included Andrews Air Force Base; Thule Air Base, Greenland; Cameron Station, Virginia; Lajes Field Air Force Base, Azores; U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Clark Air Force Base, Philippines, and AAFES corporate headquarters in Dallas, TX. Prior to his career at AAFES, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a caring husband and father to his three children.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Carmen (Bologna) Winters; daughters Brigitte (and husband, Bradley) Shughart, Sheryl (and husband, Ryan) Banta; son Frank Costello; brother William (and wife, Joan) Winters, sisters Marilyn Winters and Toni Ruster; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St Patrick's Catholic Church, 87 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
