James Edward Hunt

June 11, 1947 — April 4, 2020

James “Jim” E. Hunt, 72, of Mechanicsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at his residence.

Born on June 11, 1947 in Cambridge, New York, he was the son of the late Leroy and Murial (Barnhardt) Hunt. James was raised by his brother and sister in-law, Robert and Doris Hunt from a young age.

James who went by Jim to friends and family, served in the US Army from 1966-1969, where he fought in the Vietnam War. James loved cars and never passed up a car show. He had several vehicles over the years that he was very proud of showing off and bragging about his awards. Family was everything to him, whether it was a scooter race in the yard with his grandkids, or just having a picnic and sharing memories, he always made time. James drove truck for a large portion of his life, and enjoyed how it allowed him to travel to new places. James took pride in being a Veteran, and never took pause to shaking a veteran's hand and thanking them for their service. James was a lifetime member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in his home town in upstate New York. James will be remembered for his love of life. He never passed up a moment to dance, tell a joke or make you smile. Never a day passed that his dogs were not found sitting in his lap waiting for him to sneak them a snack. The love and dedication James had for his family showed through all he did. He was a kind man that always looked out for his family.

James is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda; four daughters, Melinda Bowen (Don) of Shaftsbury VT, Julie Hunt-Dague (David) of Upper Strasburg PA, Stacy Scott (Jason) of St. Augustine FL and Amy Surdam (Steve) of White Creek NY; grandchildren, Kaiyla Hunt (Chris Doyle), Stephen Surdam, Alexx Guertin (pre-deceased), Tianna Reed (Tyler), Sabrina and Nathaniel Aiken, Megan (Tony) Davidson, Ashley and Michaela Bowen and April Clyde. James also leaves behind seven great grandchildren, Abigail and Hailey Doyle, Sawyer Surdam-Crawford, Xander, Miyah, Mason, and Elizabeth as well as a greatgrandchild due in October. James is survived by his brother Martin Hunt, sister Kathy Kaye as well as several nieces and nephews and predeceased by four brothers, Robert, Leroy, Nick, Joe, and four sisters, Ozella, Marge, Hellen and Irene.
