James E. Rhyner, 82, of Carlisle died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at Golden Living Center, Camp Hill.
Born Nov. 2, 1928, in Castle Shannon, he was a son of the late Elmer A. and Catherine B. Trussel Rhyner and the widower of Marguerite M. McGregor Rhyner.
He was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, class of 1946. James retired in 1985 after 33 ½ years with Bell Telephone as a motor vehicle supervisor.
He was a member and volunteer for His Hands Auto Repair Ministry, Samaritan Fellowship, Carlisle Area Truck Stop Ministry and the Carlisle CARES. He was a member of AARP 3378 and a member of the Red Cross Board. James was a 50-year man in the Masons; a member of St. John’s 260 Masonic Lodge and Germania Lodge 509.
James was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War.
Surviving are one daughter, Catherine M. Campbell (and husband, Kevin) of Shippensburg; one son, James W. Rhyner (and wife, Nancy) of Stoystown; one stepson, Dennis E. Angel (and wife, Cheryl) of Indiana; one stepdaughter, Bonnie J. Angel of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Virginia D. Rhyner of Castle Shannon; nine grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn A. Rhyner; two children, Joseph W. Rhyner and Mary Rhyner; and his first wife, Mary Collette Reike.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle, with the Rev. Bruce Fensterbush officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, with military honors conducted by Cumberland County Honor Guard.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 45 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
