James "Mike" Chronister

Mike went to be with the Lord on September 29th, 2024. He was born in Carlisle, PA on April 5th, 1947.

He was the son of Mervin “Mike” Chronister and Margaret “Peg” Mohler Chronister.

Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eleanor “Viki” Estep Chronister; three daughters – Jody Mukalian, Lewisberry, PA, Torri Chronister, Hutchinson Island, FL, and Jandi McAdams, Carlisle PA and former son-in-law, Kevin McAdams, Carlisle, PA; Two granddaughters - Nicole Spotts and Brynlee McAdams; Three sisters: Betty Walters (Ken), Camp Hill, PA, Peggy Wagner (Rick), Lexington, KY and Connie Strausbaugh (Earl), Hanover, PA; sisters-in-law Berta Chronister, Carlisle PA, Chris (Bud) Halicki and Patti (Darrell) Creamer (all of Chambersburg, PA); many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; his dog Starsky and cat Skylah.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Percy (Jane), Norman (Berta) and Charles “Chuck” (Barb) Chronister, and sister Nora Hill.

Mike graduated from Carlisle High School in 1966. He was a lifelong resident of Carlisle. 

He was employed at Carlisle Tire and Rubber, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Eichelberger’s, Adams Well Drilling, and retired from Tuckey Mechanical Services in 2007 after 18 years.

He was an active member of Salem Stone United Church of Christ, Carlisle.

He was a former member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church, Carlisle and was involved in the Boy Scout Program for 20 years.

Mike was a handyman who could fix anything, and he was always willing to help anyone he could. 

Mike was an outdoorsman who loved animals, deer hunting, fishing (especially deep-sea fishing), hiking and camping (including with the Salem Stone group).

He also loved traveling with his family to Florida, Arizona and enjoyed numerous cruises. He and Viki travelled to all 50 states and several countries. 

Mike was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time at home with his wife, kids, and granddaughter Brynlee, who he adored for the last six years. He was an outgoing man who loved his big family, his church family, neighbors and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013. A celebration of life will be held at Salem Stone United Church of Christ, 514 Stone Church Road, Carlisle, PA 17015, off McClures Gap Road with the Reverend Barbara Albert presiding. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
