Mr. Jack B Lucas, of Carlisle, passed away on January 31, 2024 at UPMC West Shore Hospital at the age of 92 after an unexpected medical event. His daughter Jacqueline (Jaci) Kennedy, and companion Carol Weaver, were at his side.
Born April 22, 1931, in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late George F. and Violet E. (Corle) Lucas. Jack and his late wife, Laura K Lucas (Kammer), of 58 years, were married on September 5, 1959, in Baltimore, MD. The family relocated to Carlisle, PA in 1970.
Jack graduated from Patterson Park High School in Baltimore, MD as a member of the Class of 1950. He subsequently attended the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, graduating in 1969.
Jack was primarily a teacher during his work career. He began his career in Baltimore, MD as a drafting instructor prior to retiring from Cumberland Perry Area Vocation Technical School as a Civil Engineering instructor. After he retired from teaching, Jack was employed with two different architectural firms in Harrisburg, PA. He worked 1969-1970 in the private sector as a civil engineer. He permanently retired in 1996. He had secondary employment and interests throughout his life that included running a minor printing business with a good friend, instructing student drivers in Baltimore, coaching Little League, and serving as a Cub Scout Packmaster. Jack also worked a short stint as a real estate agent.
Jack enjoyed softball, was an avid bowler (duckpin and regular), and enjoyed woodcarving. He was also a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. He was a former member of the Harrisburg-Snyder Lodge 629 F&AM.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline “Jaci” D. Kennedy (Robert L Morgan Jr), of New Kingstown; sons Jaq B. Lucas, Jr. of Berkley, CA, and Stephen A. Lucas (Mary) of Chico, CA; grandchildren Joshua J. Kennedy (Allison), Clara A. V. Lucas and Archer K. Lucas; great-grandchildren Jack, Lucas, and William (Liam) Kennedy; his brother, Robert D. Lucas (his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Kristin), of Savannah, GA; his sister Ruth's daughter, Deborah Finette.
He is preceded in death by his wife; his older sister, Ruth A Newsholme, and younger sister, Sarah J Parsons. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jack’s Memory to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W Louther St, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to Project SHARE of Carlisle, 5 N. Orange St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
