J. Lamont “Blackie†Black, 86 of Carlisle, died Tuesday October 11, 2011 in the Harrisburg Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 2, 1925 in Shermans Dale, PA, the son of the late Charles and Ruth Baer Black and the widower of Ruth E. Adams Black.
Blackie worked as an electrical technician at Frog Switch Manufacturing, Carlisle and later retired from the former AMP, Pike Plant after 30 years of service. He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in France, Germany, Belgium and England, serving under General George Patton. Lamont was a perfectionist who worked on everything from televisions to cars. He enjoyed gatherings, going out to eat and historical steam engine shows. He enjoyed spending time with his great-granddaughter Lexi and his dog Buddy.
Surviving are two daughters, Vonnie Sheriff and her husband Ron, Mt. Holly Springs and Vicki Brownawell and her husband Kenneth, Mt. Holly Springs, two grandchildren, Devin Sheriff, Mt. Holly Springs and Nathan Sheriff and his wife Adrienne, Carlisle, a great-granddaughter, Alexis Sheriff, two sisters in law, Janice Rosenberry and Helen Snyder both of Carlisle, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Buddy. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday October 17, 2011 in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 E. Louther St., Carlisle with the Rev. Timothy Sadler officiating. Burial will at Youngs United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale. There will be a viewing from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle and from 12:00 pm Monday until the time of the service at the church.
