Irvin E. "Gene" Beard, 83, of Carlisle, passed away Monday September 1, 2014.
Born June 11, 1931, in Sioux City, IA, he was a son of the late Lee Beard and Josephine (Brunner) Beard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erika (Erbertseder) Beard of 57 years.
He was a 20 year veteran of the US Army and began his career in the 85 Infantry at Ft. Riley, KS before being transferred to the Constabulary Horse Troop at Altefeld, Germany. He then joined the Military Police before ending his career as a criminal investigator in the CID (Criminal Investigation Division).
Following his retirement from the Army, he worked as a Special Investigator for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Justice Department and later, as a Fraud Investigator in the Student Loan Division of PHEAA. He retired from the Commonwealth after 20 years of service.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Beard Barry and his granddaughter, Katie and her husband Jason Landis of Carlisle.
At the request of the family, there will be no services. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
