Howard K. "Tip" Hansen, Jr., COL (Ret.) US Army, age 70, of Boiling Springs, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Carlisle, PA.
He was born in Jersey City, NJ on May 1, 1945 to the late Howard K. and Frances Long Hansen.
Tip retired after 28 years from the United States Army as a full Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, served in the 1st and 5th Special Forces and served 4 years as an army intelligence officer at the Pentagon. Tip attended the U.S. Army War College as a student and retired from the faculty there in 1994. After retiring from the military, Tip taught high school history for 18 years at Bermudian Springs High School where he was a 3 time commencement speaker for their high school graduation. Tip was very proud that he ran and completed the 1984 Honolulu Marathon. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rosann Sancetta Hansen of Boiling Springs; three sons, Howard K. "Tippy" Hansen, III of Boiling Springs, Robert B. (and wife Stacy) Hansen of Boiling Springs and Doug K. Hansen of Philadelphia; two sisters, Barbara Ann (and husband Edward) Murphy of AZ and Fran Procopio of AZ; one brother, William (and wife Collen) Hansen of IL; and a grandson, Ben Hansen, who affectionately called him Far Far.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel, Carlisle Barracks, PA with Chaplain (COL) Gregory J. D'Emma as celebrant. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer, VA. There will be a viewing on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA.
