Hester R. Shaffer

Hester R. Shaffer, 97, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, passed away on Monday October 22, 2012 in Emeritus at Graysonview Assisted Living, Selinsgrove.
Born, September 30, 1915, a daughter of the late William C. A. and Bertha Shirk Reed and the widow of Walter E. Shaffer.
Hester was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church where she attended until she was no longer able. Hester and her late husband were always very active in the Freemont Fire Department and the Republican Party. They also participated in the Friday night bowling league.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Musser and husband Albert “Dutch” of El Reno, OK and Linda Hoover and husband Tom of Middleburg; four sons, Larry Shaffer and wife Wendy of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Lee Shaffer and wife Renee of Middleburg, Carl Shaffer and wife Deborah of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Scott Shaffer and wife Melanie of Mt. Pleasant Mills; one sister, Alma Finkenbinder of Carlisle; eighteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by ten sisters, Florence McGuire, Grace Smith, Helen McGuire, Hazel Murphy, Mildred Barrick, Della “Del” Minium, Margaret Reed, Anna Weldon, Bertha Barrick and Erma Knuth; one brother, William C. A. Reed Jr. and her infant child Connie.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Richfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 206 (Church Street) Richfield, Pennsylvania 17086 with Pastor Leon Scholl and Pastor Vernon Shenberger co-officiating. A viewing will be held Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. A private burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 219 N. Hanover St. Carlisle, PA 17013 will be handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Hester’s name to Sun Home Health Hospice, 61 Duke St. P. O. Box 232 Northumberland, PA 17857.
