Helen P. Shughart, 78, of Carlisle, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born May 27, 1933 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Jane Cooper Monismith and the widow of Marlin Shughart, Sr.
She retired as dietary cook with the Carlisle Hospital after 38 years of service. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, Carlisle. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Bridges of Bent Creek. Helen was Cumberland Valley High School’s number one sports fan.
Surviving are one son, Marlin Shughart, Jr. (and wife, Carol) of Lancaster; three daughters, Jane Schlusser (and husband, Charlie) of Carlisle, Betsy Wagner (and husband, Bill) of York Springs and Heidi Cook (and husband, Jerry) of Mechanicsburg; one brother, Harry Monismith of Carlisle; five sisters, Grace Neal of Carlisle, Marie Dietz of Mechanicsburg, Shirley Miller of Carlisle, Sonia Hershey of Carlisle and Lillian Sheaffer of Carlisle; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Pastor Dan Lehman officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 and also, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
