Harry Stouffer Eshenour

Harry Stouffer Eshenour, born on July 20, 1933 and son of the late Howard and Edna (Stouffer) Eshenour of Carlisle, left this life to look down on his loved ones from heaven on September 30, 2013. Harry was a proud graduate of the class of 1951 from Carlisle High School, and a Korean War veteran (1953-1955) serving as a Corporal in the Combat Engineers.
Harry was the former manager of Byers Lumber Company in Carlisle and later retired from Castles Lumber Company in Carlisle. No one could ever accuse him of sitting still, as he was active in numerous community organizations. He was a 26 year member of the Elks Lodge #578 in Carlisle, a life member of VFW Post 477 in Carlisle and a member of the American Legion Post 101 for 33 years.
Harry was a Master Mason in Cumberland Star Lodge No. 197 F & AM and, a member of Harrisburg Consistery Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Ancient Noble of the Mystic Shrine, Zembo Temple. He was also in the York Rite Bodies of Free Masonry; St. John's Chapter No. 171, St. John's Council No. 5, and St. John's Commandery No. 8 Knights Templar, all in Carlisle. Harry served for many years on various committees of the Masonic Temple Association of Carlisle, i.e. Committee for building of the new Masonic Temple, Masonic Temple Association Director, Building Maintenance Committee Chairman and an active member of the Rental Committee. He was a former member of the Cumberland County Shrine Club. Harry was respected as one of the most outstanding workers among those in the Masonic Temple Association in Carlisle.
Harry became a very familiar sight at boy scouting events, having served as an assistant scout leader with Troup 186 for 35+ years, was a member of the Carlisle Fish and Game since 1951 and was a member of the Advisory Board for the Carlisle School District Vocations Department – Building Trades.
Being a lifelong member at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle, Harry served numerous terms on the Church Council and served on the Property Committee for over 50 years.
Harry is survived by his wife for 58 years, Joan M. (Jones) Eshenour; three sons: Harry (Steve) Eshenour, III (and his wife, Lori), Randall Lee Eshenour, and Bryan K. Eshenour (and his wife, Dawn); grandchildren: Harry Stephen Eshenour, IV, Brandon Jacob Eshenour, Bryant Donald Eshenour and Alicia Marie Eshenour; and one great grandchild, Madison L. Eshenour. Harry shared his life with four sisters, Andrea Keck (and her husband, Lester), Caroline Wise (and her husband, Paul), Freda Jones (and her late husband, Seldon) and Pearl Trego (and her husband, Harold), a sister-in-law, Beverly Eshenour, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, H. Carroll Eshenour.
Besides his tireless contributions to many organizations, Harry also loved hunting, fishing, traveling, spending time with his family, friends and especially his furry grand-dogs.

A visitation will be held on Friday evening, October 4 at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Burial Service will be held by Officers of the Cumberland Star Lodge beginning at 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. High Street in Carlisle beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the beginning of the service. The interment including Military Honors provided by Cumberland County Honor Guard, will be held at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Ritner Highway, Carlisle.
