Harold M. Travis

Harold M. Travis, 93, of New Columbia and formerly of Mt. Holly Springs and Gardners, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 5th, 2014. He was born December 21, 1920 in Duquesne, Allegheny County to Chester and Viola (Trimbath) Travis. His first wife of 37 years, Irene (Marcase) Travis died in 1980. He is survived by his second wife of 32 years, Rebecca (Koch) Stump Travis of New Columbia. He is also survived by his six children: Diane (Donald) Lesher, Gardners; Harold (Ann) Travis, Carlisle; James (Donna) Travis, Fairfield; Virginia (James) Michael, Lewisburg; Raymond (Jean) Travis, Stevensville, Md; and Kenneth (Tamara) Travis, Landisville; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by four step-children: Scott Stump (Criss Moneyhan), Bethany (Jeff) Lytle, Terina Doherty and Danita (Bob) Nelson and their families; He was predeceased by two brothers, Warren and Walter Travis and two sisters, Eleanor McWilliams and Ardis Nemitz.
A US Navy veteran of WWII, he served in Algeria and Morocco in 1944 and 1945. After his return from WWII, he was employed as a machinist for Carnegie Steel, Duquesne; Essex Wire, Gettysburg and Frog, Switch and Manufacturing Company, Carlisle. He also owned and operated a fruit farm near Arendtsville during the 1950s. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. A lifelong Christian, he had belonged to the Lutheran Church in Mt. Holly, Faith Chapel and the Wesleyan Church of the Cross in Carlisle, and the Assembly of God Church in Milton. Pastor Dan Mikesell will conduct the services which will be private. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery with Professional Services provided by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle.
