Harold E. Van Orden, 90, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle.
He was born July 18, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late Harold R. and Marie (Lappan) Van Orden and was the widower of Glendora B. (Shulnburg) Van Orden.
Harold enjoyed golfing, and spending time with his family. He was a stamp collector and was a lifetime member of the American Philatelic Society. Harold volunteered at the Military History Library on the Carlisle Barracks, actively helped the Carlisle Area Science Advisory Committee and the Boy Scouts of America. He retired from Cincinnati Milacron which was formerly Carlisle Grinding Wheel after many years of service. Harold was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle where he enjoyed helping with adult Sunday Church School. He honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII.
Harold is survived by five sons, Dean E. (wife Lois) Van Orden of Carlisle, Drew R. (wife Mary Lou) Van Orden of Pittsburgh, Mark G. (wife Donna) Van Orden of Rhode Island, Keith C. Van Orden of Carlisle and Brad V. (wife Kathy) Van Orden of Maryland; two daughters, Laura E. (husband Bret) Matz of Virginia and Mary Ann Van Orden of Carlisle; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Katherine Van Orden.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 South Bedford Street Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Harold to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church’s, Building to Serve All God’s Children.
