Guy Herbert Porterfield, 91, of Carlisle, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
Born November 25, 1919 in Sharon, PA, he was a son of the late Elmer Elsworth and Susan Jennings Porterfield and with widower of Nellie Adams Porterfield.
He retired from DuPont, Richmond, VA after 34 years. He painted for Alvin R. Beam Painting Contractor, Gardners. Guy served his country in the Army during WWII in the CBI Theater and was a Bronze Star recipient. Mr. Porterfield was very honored to have guarded the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He loved all sports, especially football and baseball and was a huge Yankees fan. He was a hard worker all his life, even into his 80’s.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Estes (and husband, Malcom) of Carlisle, granddaughter, Nancy Stone of Carlisle, grandson, Paul Stone of Kilgore, TX and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m., until the time of the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Graystone, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
