Guillermo “Willie” Seguin passed away May 27, 2024, at his Carlisle residence at the age of 67 while surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Guillermo and Olga (Gonzalez) Seguin. He was the loving husband of Dora M. (Guzman) Seguin with whom he enjoyed 22 years of marriage.
Born on December 17, 1956, in New York City to Cuban immigrants, Willie grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York. He attended high school at the prestigious Power Memorial Academy in New York where he excelled in academics as well as in sports. Willie participated in Track and Field which included relays, long jump and shot put. In his teens, Willie was also a member of a baseball league known as the Road Runners and was a lifeguard at the community swimming pool. While in college, he was a member of the college swim team.
He attended Lehman College in Bronx, NY where he graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting. Willie moved to Edinburg, TX in 1978 and was hired by the City of McAllen, TX where he quickly advanced to become City Financial Director. Willie enjoyed a successful career in Texas Municipal Government. He was Finance Director for the City of McAllen, Assistant Bridge Director for the City of Pharr, City Manager for the City of San Juan, and Deputy City Manager for the City of Mission.
During his down time, he was a little league coach, women’s softball league referee, played semiprofessional baseball in Mexico, and he also learned to play golf.
Willie came to know the Lord through the encouragement and determination of his long-time personal friend, Juan Vega. Since then, he never shied away from sharing the Gospel to anyone who was willing to listen. His greatest passion was teaching classes to New Believers at a church in Texas. Those who know Willie best were familiar with his conviction in the traditional saying “con fe y pa' lante.” (With faith go forward…), his favorite hymn Blessed Assurance, and his affinity for the Bible verse Numbers 6:24-26.
In 1999, Willie met his future wife Dora through mutual friends, and they married in 2002. After they both retired, Willie and Dora set their sights on moving to Pennsylvania and eventually settled in Carlisle, PA in September, 2018.
In March, 2022 Willie was diagnosed with a rare cancer known as appendiceal adenocarcinoma. He began treatments, fought with great courage, optimism, and faith in God.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents Guillermo and Olga Seguin, but he is survived by his wife Dora and his brother Leonardo Seguin of New York in addition to many nieces and nephews.
