Gregory G. Griffitth, age 66, of Carlisle, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
He was born August 11, 1951 in York to the late John H., Jr. and Camille (McHugh) Griffith.
As an electrical engineer, Greg worked first for Erie Frequency Control in Carlisle before a 33-year career at TE Connectivity (formerly AMP Incorporated and then Tyco Electronics) where he earned recognition on numerous patents while building electrical connectors for all sorts of machines and antennas for cell phones. In retirement, Greg focused his mechanical mind on fixing model trains and helping family members with home improvement. His competitive spirit fueled a lifelong tennis hobby. He continued to participate in several local doubles’ leagues, and he took pride in helping his teams succeed in regional tournaments. Greg was also an active volunteer with the Carlisle Lions Club and by delivering for Meals on Wheels as well as helping anyone in need along the way.
He is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Sally Ann (Gearhart) Griffith of Carlisle; two sons, Jeffrey John Griffith (fiancé Andrea S. Adams) of Carlisle and Jason Joseph (wife Kelly) Griffith of Phoenix, AZ; six siblings, John H. “Jack” Griffith of Carlisle, Nancy E. Crowder of Chambersburg, Jean Griffith of Chambersburg, James (wife Katherine) Griffith of Mechanicsburg, Mary Lou (husband Harold) Bricker of Carlisle and Elizabeth (husband Henry) White of Boyertown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gregory was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joy Griffith and a brother-in-law, Donald Crowder.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey, V.F. as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick 3rd Century Fund, 152 E. Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA 17013, Carlisle Lions Club, PO Box 321, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to Meals on Wheels, 42 Bellaire Avenue, Carlisle, PA 17013
