Gordon Earl Nousianen, age 85, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born November 18, 1930 in Trout Creek, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to the late Leo and Bertha (Haara) Nousianen. Gordon retired from the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant with 20 years of service. His last assignment was in Washington, DC where he was a Data Automation Superintendent in the Office of Aerospace Research, He then worked in the Governor's Office for the Commonwealth of PA as Assistant Director of the Central Management Information System. He retired from there with over 22 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Kiwanis of Carlisle and the Cumberland County Honor Guard. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Birthright, Safe Harbor, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Meehan) Nousianen of Carlisle; children, Gordon E. of Austin, TX, Robert Dale and Gary, both of Mechanicsburg, Suzanne of Richmond, VA, Patrick (and wife Chivas) of Honolulu, HI; brothers, Bill Highly of Coeur-D-Lane, ID and Bob (and wife Kathy) Nousiainen of Bruce Crossing, MI; grandchildren, Pandora, Kristina, Shelby and Earl Gordon; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Stella, Sadie and Selena. In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Ronald Nousianen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery, McClure's Gap Road, Carlisle with full military honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A visitation with recitation of the Rosary will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. The Family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Harbor at Claremont for their kindness and care of Gordon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School, 85 Marsh Drive Carlisle, PA 17015.
