Gloria Yvonne Bigler, 84, of Carlisle, PA died May 27, 2019 at home surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family.
Born on October 12, 1934 in Carlisle, PA, she was the daughter of the late First Sergeant Paul D. and Reba I. Bagrosky.
Gloria attended school in Hopewell, VA, Little Rock, AR and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954.
She retired from Carlisle Area School District as head cook for the Senior High School and also provided lunches for several other schools in the district. She also worked for Montgomery Ward for years, Newville Shoe Factory, and Kings Gap Environmental Center preparing food for special programs. She volunteered at Project Share in Carlisle. She and her sister Betty also helped with funeral meal ministries at Mt. Holly Springs Church of God and New Hope Church of God in Carlisle.
She loved being surrounded by her family and most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being outdoors in the sunshine and tending to their gardens, apple trees and flowers. She loved reading, painting and drawing. She was an avid talented sketcher. She and Walt loved to sit on the porch, watch the birds and hand-feed the squirrels.
Gloria was the one responsible for getting her husband Walt into racing. Racing has become a lifetime passion for them and many family members. The Bigler 93 Race Team has become well known in the dirt track racing community and Gloria was ALWAYS there with food and support for all. Her grandson Daulton is now a racecar driver. She was always behind the scenes but was a crucial part of the team.
Gloria is survived by her husband Walter J. Bigler; one daughter Robin D. Baker of Carlisle; two sons Jeffrey S. Bigler and companion Paula Zreliak of Mechanicsburg, and Paul J. Bigler and wife Media; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and best friend Betty Whitten who died in 2004, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Linda Riland Bigler who died much too soon in January 2012.
