Glenn Albon Stambaugh, 92, of Carlisle, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community, Carlisle. For the previous 90 years he lived on the family farm.
Born April 20, 1921 in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Earl and Mary McMillen Stambaugh and the widower of Jean Weidner Stambaugh, to whom he was married for 61 years.
He graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle in 1943 with a Bachelor's Degree. Upon graduation he entered the US Army and served during WWII; during his service he was stationed in France and England. He was a superintendent of Sunday school at Second Presbyterian where he was a member. Glenn was an astute business man who ran the family farm. He was enthusiastic about investing and was particularly knowledgeable about the stock market. He was very charitable, had two trusts set up, one to help with animals and the other to provide scholarships for local students attending Dickinson College. He was adamant about Penn State football.
Surviving are his son, Glenn E. Stambaugh of Carlisle and his daughter, Nancy J. Freeman (and husband, Edwin) of Baltimore, MD.
Graveside services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to a charity that supports animal welfare.
