Gideon “Gid” Kauffman, 81, of Carlisle, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born September 18, 1929 in Watts Township, Perry County, he was a son of the late Wesley and Ellen Mangle Kauffman.
He retired from the Navy Depot as a supervisor after 15 years. He was a US Air force veteran who served 15 years. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making creations for family members and gardening with his wife. Gideon loved sports and watched baseball and football. He was a hunter, loved playing cards and enjoyed family gatherings.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Evelyn L. Kauffman of Carlisle, one son, Steve Kauffman (and wife, Heather) of Carlisle, two sisters, Louise Helm (and husband, Samuel) of Shippensburg and Barbara Fogelsanger of Shippensburg, four grandchildren, Drew, Carson and Anthony Kauffman (and wife, Jennifer) and Kaitlin Fox. Also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Clinton E. Kauffman, and two sisters, Ruth Paige and Elsie Hall.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church, 45 South West Street, Carlisle with Rev. Bruce Fensterbush officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central PA Down Syndrome Awareness Group, 175 Briarwood Lane, Carlisle, PA 17015 and Grace United Methodist Church, 45 South West Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
