Gerald J. Wickard

Gerald James Wickard, age 83, of Carlisle, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 9, 2016 at his residence.
He was born May 4, 1933 in Carlisle to the late James G. F. and Helen L. (Grimes) Wickard and was the widower of the late Elfriede (Weiss) Wickard who passed November 1, 2015. They had been married 55 years.
Gerald retired after 26 years of service in the United States Army as a SGT 1st Class. He had also worked for the Cumberland County Prison System and retired after 15 years. He was a member of the Carlisle VFW Post #477, the Carlisle Eagles, Aerie #1299 and the White Circle Club. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and the time he spent with his loving family.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas C. (and wife Christina) Wickard of Carlisle and Jimmy J. (and wife Naomi) Wickard of Camarillo, CA; two brothers, Dale and Gary Wickard of Carlisle; two sisters, Shirley (and husband Raymond) Brooks of East Fultonham, OH and Joan Deitz of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Brandon J. Wickard, Rylie P. Salisbury, Lori Chilson and David Chastain; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
